Creating a Watch List

When you create a watch list from the Watch List Management page, you are only creating the watch list container. To add news items to your watch list, go back to the home page, select the appropriate watch list name from the Watch List pane and click the icon next to news items that you want to add to that watch list. For more information about adding items to your watch list, see Watch List Pane.

New watch lists that you create are initially private (only viewable by you). To make your watch list public (ability to be viewed and shared by other users in your organization), see Sharing/Unsharing a Watch List.

Bureau Chiefs also have the ability to designate certain watch lists as showcases, which appear in the Showcases portlet. These topics offer additional news of interest to their local customers.

To create a watch list:

  1. Click Manage from the Navigation bar; then click Watch List at left.
    Result:
The Watch List Management page appears.

  1. Click Create New.
    Result:
The new watch list section appears at top.

Published

(Required for showcases) Select this check box if you want this watch list to appear as a showcase in the Showcases pane.

Activate/
Deactivate

Specify a start (Activate) and end (Deactivate) date and time for this showcase in the following format:

MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS [AM | PM]

Showcases appear in the Showcases pane at the Activate date/time and disappear from the pane on the Deactivate date/time. Click to select a date from the calendar.

About publishing showcases:

  • If you publish a showcase, it is good practice to specify Deactivate (or manage the content within the showcase), since AP Exchange news is constantly updated and eventually expires (audio: 3 days; text: 30 days; all other media: 2 weeks).

  • If you specify Deactivate without Activate, the showcase appears immediately and expires on the specified Deactivate date.

  • If you specify Activate without Deactivate (or leave both dates blank), the showcase appears immediately and never expires; however, the content within the showcase eventually expires until no content remains in the showcase.

  • If you specify dates and no times, the showcase will appear/disappear at the specified date at 12:00:00 AM.

  1. Click Create.
    Result:
The new watch list is added to the My Watch Lists section. Watch lists designated as showcases appear in the Showcases portlet on their specified dates.
