Tasks for Published News Only

To link published news items:

  1. Select the Link options for the desired items. You may select two or more items in the same action. To select all items, click the Link option in the heading.
    Result:
    The Link button appears.

  1. Click Link.

  1. When the warning message appears, click OK.
    Result:
The items are linked and appear as suggested items within a linked item's Content window. If desired, you can display the linked content.

Tip: If the Link button does not appear for the selected items, either the new item is not yet published to the Marketplace or you are not permitted to link them. Certain cases exist where item linking is forbidden; for instance, you cannot link an original story to its own correction or update.

To refile (publish) news items:

Refiling publishes news items that were submitted for content enrichment (that may have been retrieved from a customer's Web site or news feeds) to the Marketplace, making them accessible from the Marketplace portlet.

For a single item:

    1. Click Publish to Marketplace.

Result: The Publish to Marketplace window appears.

    1. Select who should have access to this item (Publish nationally or Publish to your state).

    2. (Optional) Select the organizations within your state that should not access your story.

    3. Click Publish. It may take up to several minutes to publish your story.

For multiple items:

    1. Select the Refile options for the desired items. To select all items, click the Refile option in the heading.
      Result:
      The Refile button appears.

    1. Click Refile.
      Result:
The Publish to Marketplace window appears.

    2. Follow steps 2 through 4 for individual news items.

Tip: If the Refile option is not available, the news item is already published to the Marketplace.

To update a published news item:

Click Update. The Contribute Story page opens. Make necessary modifications to the item, summarizing these updates in the Notes box. Then, click Update at bottom.

When the warning message appears, click OK. A new item appears under Published Documents, with its headline prefixed with, "UPDATE."

Use this option to add information to the original story, such as a quote or breaking news details.

To correct a published news item:

Click Correct. The Contribute Story page opens. Make necessary modifications to the item, summarizing these corrections in the Notes box. Then, click Correct at bottom.

When the warning message appears, click OK. An additional news item appears in the Published Documents section, with its headline prefixed with, "CORRECTION."

Use this option to correct information that was stated in the original story, such as correcting a person's name or a date mentioned in the story.

To kill a news item:

Click Kill; then click OK when the warning message appears. The story's headline is prefixed with "KILL." You cannot update, correct or kill a killed story.

Use this option if you want to remove your news item from the Marketplace. The news item can still be retrieved from the home page with missing story text and/or a missing image.

Notes:

  • To remove a news item from the Marketplace, you must kill its original story. You cannot remove the news item by only killing its update or correction; in these instances, the Kill link is inactive.

  • JPEGs that have not been published to the Marketplace (only sent to AP Editors) cannot be Updated, Corrected or Killed by anyone other than an AP Photo Editor. When the uploaded JPEG is modified by an Editor, the item becomes a brand new eAP item.

To display a news item's linked items:

Click Linked Media; then click the linked item's headline to display its preview.

Click Linked Media again to hide the linked content's headline.
