Using AP Exchange |

The Media tabs allow you to select which media type (text, photos, graphics, video, interactives or video, depending on your customer entitlements) to display in the Center column for all entitled products, saved searches or simple search results. You can only display one media type at a time. The default media type becomes your previously selected tab.

Move the mouse over a tab's title to display the number of items per page that AP Exchange will display. A value of (0) indicates that no matches were found for that media type. You can change the number of displayed items per page via the Account Settings page.

To update the contents within the media tabs with the most current news items, click You can also automatically configure the refresh settings via the Account Settings page. |
The current search name area indicates which search results are displayed in the Center column. The current search name can be either:

When you perform one or more Search within results or Pinpoint searches, the current search name/path changes to a linked "search breadcrumb" trail:

Click any link in this trail to return to that previous search.
Whether the current search is a newly entered search or a saved search, click Save This Search to modify its search criteria and/or create a saved search on the Save Search page (resembles the Advanced Search page).
The number of search results displayed in the media panes is set according to the Number of Items Displayed section on the Account Settings page. The number of matching results found by the search is displayed on the media pane, along with the number of items that the pane is currently showing. Use the more>> and <<previous links or the Page box at the top and bottom of each pane to navigate through the search results.

Depending on your organization's entitlements, some users may only receive news from certain text and audio products for part of the day. This is known as dayparting. In this instance, you will only see news from these products that occurred during the time of the day that your organization purchased. However, AP Exchange will still offer bulletins, flashes, urgents and weather 24 hours a day.

Enable the check box to the left or above any news item to perform selected content previewing or bulk (multiple file) downloads. For more information, see Bulk Downloads.
If keywords are used in your search criteria, they will be highlighted in red in the story summary (as well as in the story text in the Content window).
The metadata content displayed within the media panes (such as content date, time, slug, headline, friendly key, transref number, priority and word count) and the content refresh rate are also set via the Account Settings page.
A story with prior revisions is indicated by the
icon in the Text pane next to the date and time. Click the icon to display the headlines of the prior story revisions below. Click a headline to see its Content window.

Click the
icon again to hide the prior revision headlines.
By default, AP Exchange displays a story's headline and its summary in the Text pane. To hide the story summaries, click Headline.

Click Summary to re-display the story summaries in the Text pane.

Linked Media Icons
If a story has suggested (linked) media (such as accompanying photos and/or graphics), the linked media icon
appears to the right of the headline.

Watch List Icon
To add a news item to your active watch list, click
. If you do not have any watch lists created, AP Exchange places the news item in an automatically generated watch list.

Download Icon
To download a news item to your local machine:
Click
and select a file format from the menu that appears.

Result: The File Download dialog appears. Notice that "_<the first four letters of your last name>" is appended to the end of the news item's file name.

Click Save or OK.
Result: The Save As dialog appears.

(If necessary) Browse to the directory where you would like to save the file; then click Save.
